Thesis

The staff at the Institute for Marketing and Management are always looking for students to work on their theses. The topics may relate to the staff's main areas of research, but proposals for your own topics are also welcome.

Bachelor Theses

  • Registration

As part of their bachelor’s examination, students in the Faculty of Economics are required to write a bachelor’s thesis. This thesis involves addressing a specific problem within a given time frame using scientific methods (literature research).

According to the 2017 examination regulations (as amended on September 7, 2022), the processing time for a bachelor’s thesis is two months and is worth 10 credit points. The bachelor’s thesis can be registered during the semester on April 28 and June 30. The two registration dates for the winter semester will be announced at a later date. To ensure optimal supervision of your bachelor’s theses, deviations from the above dates are not possible.

Successful participation in a seminar at the Institute is recommended in order to acquire a sufficiently high level of marketing knowledge.

Students who are allocated a place to write their bachelor’s thesis at the Institute are expected to participate in the bachelor’s colloquium (course number: 275004). The respective dates will be announced via Stud.IP and the Institute’s homepage.

Places are allocated through a central allocation procedure conducted by the Dean’s Office. The allocation procedure for the summer semester 2026 as well as the winter semester 2026/2027 will take place in January 2026.

  • Topic selection and allocation

When selecting a topic for your bachelor’s thesis, you be will integrated into the research areas and ongoing work of our staff. This has the advantage of allowing you to contribute to highly topical research projects while also incorporating your own ideas.

Please note that the topic and the supervisor are determined by the Institute. Once your thesis has been approved, you will have the opportunity to indicate your preferences from a list of predefined topics. We will then aim to assign topics that match your preferences as closely as possible; however, it may not be possible to accomodate all preferences.

  • Support

Supervision is provided by a member of staff from the Institute for Marketing and Management and is supported by a bachelor’s colloquium. At the beginning of the process, key aspects relevant to the preparation of a bachelor’s thesis are discussed, such as:

    • Structure and outline of a bachelor’s thesis
    • Literature processing
    •  Procedure for theoretical (or empirical) work

We will inform you of the exact schedule in due time.

Please note that supervision by institute staff will only begin after you have been successfully assigned a bachelor’s thesis topic. The first supervision meeting will be used to finalize your topic and the title of your bachelor’s thesis. Please ensure that you are adequately prepared for all supervision appointments.
